Everyone told us the house was too far gone. One friend, an experienced builder, said he'd bet a million bucks we couldn't finish. Of course, that made us want the challenge all the more.

The house was hidden behind a privet hedge, covered with ivy growing through gaps in windows. Rain had been an enemy for some time. Still, there was no denying the architect had a keen sense of scale. Underneath the moss and mildew was a home that suited our lifestyle and eccentricities quite well.
